Almost the middle of June and the seasons are upside down. The topic for today was chosen by Conrad
Respect for Life
What a subject. Massive. So many directions to take it…
Abortion. Pro Life. Rape. War. Starvation. Greed.
“Dear Lord and Father of Mankind” happens to be playing in the background as I type. It is a hymn with words taken from a prayer contained in the long poem The Brewing of Soma by the American poet John Greenleaf Whittier. The hymn is sung to the tune REPTON by C. Hubert H. Parry.
It ends with the verse:
Breathe through the hearts of our desire
Thy coolness and Thy balm;
Let sense be numb, let flesh retire;
Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm!
My small voice can do little to add to the list of subjects I mention above, so I will save my breath to cool my porridge.
“If you don’t have respect for yourself, you will never have respect for anybody else!”
Mammy said that to me many a long year ago In fact it has been almost shouting at me of late. Time to shuffle and dust the cards of my life or as some might say: Turn a corner.
Time for a Change.
Normally when I want to mull over a problem or change of direction, I turn to silence and physical work. Alas, a full day in the garden this week may have made the view clearer and added a selection aches and bruises, but it was not enough to clear my thoughts.
I need to try again!
