Respect

Almost the middle of June and the seasons are upside down.   The topic for today was chosen by Conrad

Respect for Life

What a subject.  Massive.  So many directions to take it…

Abortion.   Pro Life.  Rape.  War.  Starvation.  Greed.

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind” happens to be playing in the background as I type.  It is a hymn with words taken from a prayer contained in the long poem The Brewing of Soma by the American poet John Greenleaf Whittier.  The hymn is sung to the tune REPTON by C. Hubert H. Parry.

It ends with the verse:

Breathe through the hearts of our desire
Thy coolness and Thy balm;
Let sense be numb, let flesh retire;
Speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm!

My small voice can do little to add to the list of subjects I mention above, so I will save my breath to cool my porridge.

If you don’t have respect for yourself, you will never have respect for anybody else!

Mammy said that to me many a long year ago  In fact it has been almost shouting at me of late.  Time to shuffle and dust the cards of my life or as some might say: Turn a corner.

Time for a Change.

Normally when I want to mull over a problem or change of direction, I turn to silence and physical work.  Alas, a full day in the garden this week may have made the view clearer and added a selection aches and bruises, but it was not enough to clear my thoughts.

I need to try again!

    I liked the line, “forgive our foolish ways”. Yes, we humans do have many foolish ways.

    I liked your line, “save my breath to cool my porridge”. Ha ha, I have never heard that term before. 😀

    “If you don’t have respect for yourself, you will never have respect for anybody else!”

    So true–but women forget this and submerge themselves in all the roles that life deals them…it is pretty late before they sit up and think, “Wait a minute….who am I?”

    Respect for life is in short supply on this planet. Not just in the sense of not killing people or living creatures, but in the sense of respecting people’s opinions and lifestyles.

    Never too late to have the message filter through. Much needed to arrest the abuse of the planet, and of all living things within.

    Ramana – Thank you.

    Delirious – I think that “save my breath to cool my porridge” is a Dublin saying.
