Food Monday ~ Mariannas Ginger Biscuits

A few weeks ago Marianna Paulson, also known as Auntie Stress tempted my taste buds with these ginger biscuits made with grated root ginger.  They are just right for this time of year. 😀

Marianna’s Ginger Biscuits
Preheat oven to 180
°°C

2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
1 tablespoon ground ginger
3/4 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses/treacle or golden syrup
2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger
Sugar for tossing

Sift flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, cloves & ground ginger into a bowl.
Cream butter and sugar and add egg, molasses/treacle or golden syrup & grated ginger, I did this in food processor. Add the flour to the creamed mixture and pulse to mix thoroughly.
Chill dough in the fridge to for 30 minutes.

Form dough into small balls and toss in white sugar.   Marianna suggested putting the sugar in a food bag and tossing the dough balls a few at a time, it is faster and cleaner.
Place on greased cookie sheet and press each one with a fork. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Check after 10 minutes, under-bake slightly, then leave on cookie sheet for a few minutes before removing to a cooling rack.

Try not to eat them before they are cold.  😉

You have some nerve putting up a recipe that does not have CASTER SUGAR as an ingredient.

First, it took me five years to figure out what the H it was, then it took me another two years to go buy some (We call it SUPER FINE over here in the Colonies).

So, now I’m all set and can’t wait for your Monday recipe. I look and look and can’t believe my eyes. Your recipe does not call for CASTER SUGAR..

My day, and possibly my week,is ruined…

Nancy – can you hear me laugh? Today we are going for the healthy option. 😉 No doubt you will have ample opportunity to use your supply of caster sugar before the year ends.

Your new recipe better call for a whole lot of Caster Sugar because I bought a 20 pound bag of the stuff.

Get cracking now, GM, and while you’re at it, get a recipe that calls for a lot of vinegar, too. I just refilled my tank…..

Mayo – I have to work hard to please everyone. 😉

Steph – Whist, will ye, or Nancy will want to install another tank in her yard. This one for Castor oil to stand alongside the Vinegar and caster sugar storage!

Nancy – I am sure Steph will be back to normal, bright as a button, next week.

These looks so close to the Ginger Snap recipe. Biggest difference is swapping the butter for the shortening (which is one of the things I did when they turned into “scones).

    thanks for the link.
