Best Night Ever

Best Night Ever ~ Bronze
~Bob Quinn

This wonderful piece has rather haunted me for quite a long time. At home in the Irish National Botanic Gardens, Dublin, it has no indication as to the artist.  Eventually after months of searching and many visits through differing seasons I have finally discovered the secret.

Bob’s work is a celebration of the drama and the nobility of the most ordinary of human activity. One young lady carries her bag while the other carries her shoes.

Born in 1948 Bob Quinn had a long career as a commercial artist, designer and as the head of a successful design and production company. He now works full time as a sculptor in Blackrock Co Dublin where he lives with his wife and two daughters.

He has pursued his love of drawing and sculpture throughout his career and has illustrated several publications and has been a regular contributor of illustrations to Independent Newspapers. His sculptures appear in private collections and gardens throughout Ireland, Britain and Europe.

Although loosely described as figurative his art is expressionist and his deep  knowledge of  anatomy allows him to abstract the human form and make the simplest of observations. His lifelong influences have been Epstein, Marini and Giacometti and painters such as Millet and Degas.

Although no artist with a camera, this last photo gives me the feeling of the euphoria bubble that surrounds the girls as they leave the party.

A great sculpture. Indeed, they look quite blissed out. And so elegant. But are you sure that’s her bag she’s carrying and not her iPad?

Lovely … but the artist had obviously never seen those young ladies who now roam our high streets on a Friday and Saturday night. 🙂

Ramana – I have to say I don’t know who named this piece, but usually it is the sculptor who decides.

Big John – Especially if it is after a ‘hen party’!

Good evening Pól, I am still alive even though my blog has been neglected for many months. The past two years have been a struggle, but hopefully moving in the right direction once more. The Best Night Ever is one of my favourite sculptures from Dublin. It took me months of searching to find the name, never mind any details about it. You can a;most hear the giggles and chat as they saunter home after a night of fun… It reminds me of my young days!!!

Great to hear from you and that you are still in the land of the living. Read your ENT post and was afraid you’d left us. Had asked Paul Waters if he’d heard from you or knew what was going on. Just tweeted him that you’d been in touch. They were good days on his blog. I have the impression he’s run off his feet producing for BBC5 radio. Hope you get back to blogging – not enough quality stuff around.

BTW made contact with Bob Quinn who sent me a comment. I’m asking him if it’s OK for me to share it as a comment on my post. Will let you know.

    Stay in touch.

Thanks Pól, it is nice to know I am not forgotten. From time to time I hear mention of Paul Waters on BBC Radio 4. They bring mine the fun we had a few years ago when Paul was home in Belfast for a visit. Paul is a good guy!

I will try to keep in touch, you may well be the nudge I need to blog again.

      stay well,

A penny for your thoughts...
