Blogging the alphabet ~ M

M ~ Miscellaneous medley of meanderings from my mayhemic mind.

M is the first letter of my name – Marie

Máda. Would you give your daughter that name?

MÁDA, genitive idem (the same), Maud; a contraction of Matilda (see Maitilde).
From Irish Names and Surnames 1923.

I had a grand aunt, known to all the family as Maud. Her real name was Catherine.

MAUDLINTOWN. Heard of it? Would you like to live there?

The parish is situated on the western shore of the harbour of Wexford, ¾ of a mile from the court-house.  It comprises 1320 statute acres. There was an hospital for lepers there, governed by a master, keeper, or prior, who, with the brethren and sisters, had  acquired and appropriated to themselves and successors in perpetuity, 120 acres of land in Maudlintown  The ruins of the old church, dedicated to St. Maud, still exist.

Music Bath? Ever had one….

Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons, and you will find that it is to the soul what the water-bath is to the body.
~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

+*+ +*+ +*+

from a nursery rhyme I heard long ago.

As I walked by myself,
And talked to myself,
Myself said unto me:
“Look to thyself,
Take care of thyself,
For nobody cares for thee.”

I answered myself,
And said to myself
In the selfsame repartee:
“Look to thyself,
Or not look to thyself,
The selfsame thing will be.”
