If you come from an Irish family…………………………..
- You swear very well.
- You think you sing very well.
- You have no idea how to make a long story short!
- Many of your childhood meals were boiled.
- You spent a good portion of your childhood kneeling in prayer.
- You’re strangely poetic after a few drinks.
- Some punches directed at you are from legacies of past generations.
- Your sisters, cousins or aunts are named Mary, Catherine, Eileen, Maureen, or Margaret and at least one member of your family with the full name of at least three of them.
- Someone in your family is very generous. It is more than likely you.
- You may not know the words, but that doesn’t stop you from singing.
- You are genetically incapable of keeping a secret.
- Your skin’s ability to tan not so much. (Only in spots!)
- Childhood remedies for the common cold often included some form of whiskey.
- There’s no leaving a family party without saying goodbye for at least 45 minutes.
- At this very moment, you have at least two relatives who are not speaking to each other. Not fighting, mind you, just not speaking to each other.

With thanks to Brighid for this little number.
Cute list. My husband and daughters are part Irish.
gigi, I am beginning to think that every second person in the US has Irish blood in their veins! 😉
I’m mostly Irish so I suppose that’s why the list mostly applies 🙂
Chuck, you are one of the family!
Almost 12% of Americans claim Irish ancestry. I haven’t been able to trace the ancestry of Robert Daugherty, my maternal grandfather, so I have no idea of what percentage of mine are Irish. It could be as much as a quarter — or far, far less. It’s mixed with Czech (my paternal grandmother, first generation born in America), English, German, some French-Canadian and who knows what else, along with, way back, a dash of an eastern North American tribe, possibly Oneida.
Mike that makes for one great cocktail!
“There’s no leaving a family party without saying goodbye for at least 45 minutes.” Oh yes, I’ve discovered the truth of that a few times! And not just family parties, any old party….
Nick, with some people it can be any old conversation, you don’t even need a party!
15/15, I guess that’s me sussed then. F€$¥-it
Alas, coming from a large family circle, there are bound to be more than two! 😆
🙂
Most of those are characteristics that you will find among Indians too. They are already tanned in colour as well as from childhood!
I keep waiting for my freckles to join up. Do you think I should give up hoping?
