Humor/Humour

Humour or humor (see spelling differences) is the tendency of particular cognitive experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement. The term derives from the humoral medicine of the ancient Greeks, which taught that the balance of fluids in the human body, known as humors (Latin: humor, “body fluid”), control human health and emotion.

The majority of people are able to experience humour, i.e., to be amused, to laugh or smile at something funny, and thus they are considered to have a sense of humour.

We all know people who are drier than a piece of bread without butter, or to put it another way: more boring than watching paint dry. Perhaps they have bumped their funny bone just once too often!

“A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It’s jolted by every pebble on the road ‘said HW Beeker. You might say “comedy is simply a funny way of being serious”.

Man is the only animal that knows how to laugh. If we face the challenges in life with a light sense of humour, it is not impossible to scale new heights of success.

Humour can lighten a load or break tension in a difficult or frustrating situation.

This podcast from October 2007 is an example of one such occasion.

Let your personality, and sense of humour shine through, that’s what makes you, you. Even God had a sense of humour. Just take a look around you…

Our humorous founder, Conrad, chose Humor/Humour, to tease our brains and tickle our funny bones today. We regular writers in the LBC find humour helps to lighten our daily walks through, pain, illness, stress and frustration. Perhaps it was that attitude to life that brought us together in the first place.

Well said. Then there are those of us who put way too much butter on our bread and who’s paint is always wet. I guess there is a happy medium. I hope I never find it.

More proof! Al, you would have fitted right in to our family. When I was growing up the weekly grocery order included 8lb = 3kg 628.74g of butter. I had an allergy to all things dairy, so that 8lb = 3kg 628.74g of butter was eaten by the other seven members of the family. when we had visitors, which we often did, more butter was purchased.

“A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It’s jolted by every pebble on the road ‘said HW Beeker. What a brilliant analogy. Indeed, it helps you adjust to things that otherwise could be deeply disturbing.

“Even God had a sense of humour. Just take a look around you…” Assuming He exists, that has to be the only explanation for the world’s utter craziness!

I had to go to the doctor, my daughter got married last Sat.,, myself and my significant other are celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary this week, We are up to day 3 in celebration. Even though we have not gotten out of bed for the last 3 days I may not make the total 42 days of celebration, I’m already exhausted.

The easy answer would have been—- under the covers!
