Absence diminishes mediocre passions and increases great ones,
as the wind extinguishes candles and fans fires.

Lovely thought. You forget all the small irritating stuff when they’re not there, and remember why they indispensable.
How true, Kate, it is often those little things that break the camel’s back. Distance dilutes them.
Absence increases great ones – like the increased passion I have for chocolate when there isn’t any in the house! 🙂
Cathy, I thought I was the only to search the house for chocolate, even when I know I have none. 🙁
Terrific quote, GM. It explains why sometimes it’s “out of sight, out of mind” and other times “absence makes the heart grow fonder.”
Nancy, you got it in one!
Very true, and nrhatch got it.
She sure did ,Judy!
A wonderful and profound thought. BTW, working on David’s tree, I found all sorts of Scots and Irish. I told him now he can celebrate Saint Patrick’s day and wear green legit. Dianne
Dianne, Researching a family tree is so much fun. All the non-Irish on my tree are the ‘Add Ons’ aka ‘Married intos’
All David’s Irish ancestors are direct ancestors. Name like Kelly. They are Irish, Scots, Welsh, German and English on his Dad’s dad’s side. All in Appalachia too. Typical mix in that area. People fleeing the wealthier areas to the East…Tidewater VA. And before that England…mostly former indentured servants. So interesting. Produced the likes of Ronald Reagan, June Carter Cash, General George Patton, and others.
Yes, Dianne, Kelly is quite a common name here.
What a wonderful quote. I read it several times just to make sure it sunk in! I hope you have a wonderful week, GM!
Debra, I began with a wonderful weekend with Elly, George & Buffy to play with. My house is very quiet this morning, but their visit was just the tonic I needed!
