A week of questions

What is the best part of being a blogger, writer and/or photographer?
The doors it opens for you.

When you are reminiscing with friends, what is your favourite story to tell?
The one our chatter brings to mind.

What is your favourite place in the world?
The place I am at, in the now.

When you are looking for inspiration where do you search?
I open my eyes and really look around me.

Are you a morning person, a night owl or somewhere in between?
I am a morning, noon and night person.

What animal best represents your personality?
I was once described as a gazelle.

What is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to you?
It was after my first day at school. My oldest brother who was four years my senior, asked when I eventually paused for breath, in my long monologue of the day’s events:

“Was there anyone as nice as you there?”

Cathy, he is never allowed to forget it! 😆 Mind you, he always makes time to meet up when I am in Dublin.

Great responses from one of the most curious people I kbnow – no – you aren’t curious as in odd – you are inquisitive, observant and typically spot on in your assessments. And yep – that was a nice thing your brother said.

Nancy, my going to school was a surprise. I was four years of age and mammy brought me down to enrol me for the next intake in September. The headmistress said she would take me that day. So mammy went home alone!

Provocative questions and interesting answers. I am a morning person. The nicest compliment I ever received came from my now deceased husband whom I was getting ready to divorce at the time. He complimented me on how I juggled the kids, the vegetable patch, my job, my schoolwork, and the housework, as well as how I managed our finances. I divorced him anyway.

Years later, he finally admitted to the kids that the breakup was his fault (other women) and that I treated him fairly during the divorce proceedings. He told his second wife a different story.

Wait, maybe that wasn’t the best compliment I ever received. Perhaps that honor belongs to one of my teachers.

These days, I don’t try to please anyone but myself.

As I said above, provocative questions!

Dianne, if we do not look after ourselves first, we will not be much good for anything else.

I am not sure he would go with the term ‘sweetie’, more a steady rock, who forged the way for the rest of us.

“Was there anyone as nice as you there?” I love it.

A gazelle can run at anything up to 60 mph. I had no idea you were that fit….

Nick, my brother is never allowed to forget it! 😉

The ‘gazelle’ remark was a long time ago, when I was trying to catch a runaway toddler (Elly). Not sure I could do that speed these days.

WWW, Brother No 2 was at the same school, he was two years older than me. A neighbour told Mammy that she had no need to worry about me. She was on the bus one day and watched as my brother put his arms round me, picked me up, elbowed everyone out of the way and landed me on the open platform at the back of the bus. He then gave me a shove to move forward and climbed on-board himself!

The brother comment really steals this show. I don’t think it is at all typical of the breed, who often spend most of the time tormenting or insulting smaller siblings.

Col, I grew up in the middle of four brothers, the other three certainly made up for No 1. You can learn about one of their pranks here
