When I feel crappy just before I have to go do something, if I decide to act as if I am happy for a while (even though I’m not) I usually end up feeling happy after not too long, or at least much less crappy. ~ Gretchen Rubin’s The Happiness Project.
This is truly comic. Unless I feel and finish being crappy first thing in the morning, no matter what I do, I will not be happy for the rest of the day till I am done with that particular chore. I bet Rubin is also like that.
Ramana, you are taking a different meaning from the word ‘crappy’ than I intended. My meaning in this instance was feeling grumpy or in low spirits, I would metaphorically whistle a happy tune. It works for me. EVERY TIME!
So right! My Granny always told me to smile even if I felt rotten. She said the very act of smiling would make me feel better – and she was right! 🙂
I totally agree!
I’m going to try this because I feel pretty crappy
Sing a happy song and think happy thoughts, it works.
Happy beats crappy! Although, I suppose if the need and relief were great enough, both can exist simultaneously.
Happy wins everytime for me, and an apple a day…. works wonders!
She’s right. You can often alter your mood by simply deciding to do so. You don’t have to wallow in negative feelings indefinitely.
Nick, I agree. Wallowing in negative feelings, uses the energy necessaryto sort out a problem or improve a situation.
Crappy for me is a dainty way of saying sh**y. Thus I don’t entertain it long, if at all. gutting busy is the best cure. That and spring. 60 degrees Farenheit here all week!
Distraction and physical work do it for me.
