Art with my Needle ~ A change of purpose

It seems a long time since I wrote about any craft work. That does not mean I have given up completly. The long dreary short dark winter days with the addition of an eye problem, for which, I am still awaiting a call for surgery, meant that the time I spend working with needles of any kind has been greatly reduced. I do have several projects on the go, but only two were completed this week.

It is amazing the items you discover when clearing and decluttering cupboards!

Two bags and some purple lining

Two bags that came as a gift, with the purchase of make-up, a couple of years ago. Some purple lining left over from bridesmaids outfits, from Elly’s wedding.

And a silver belt…

So I decide to have a little fun and make an internal divider with pockets,

Oops! That photo above is rather blurred, but it gives you the idea!

and home made bias binding

Then I altered the belt.

I stitched the smaller bag to the back of the larger one as an outside pocket. Then I removed the belt buckle and replaced it with a trinket (another discovery in a drawer!).

To prove it works a peek inside…

The pack of tissues can be moved to the other side of the divider and my mobile phone will then fit in the pocket.

I had a good reason for the long ribbon with the thingy on the end (anyone know the correct name ?)

The thingy keeps my Moo cards, USB key, trolly token and little cards all in one place and easy to find without rummaging around in the bottom of my bag!

Coffee with a friend this morning… just the occasion to use it!

Thank you, Ramana. It may not be every week, but I will try to share what I do as each project is finished!

Elly wears a lanyard with a dozen dogtags at work, so I did know what I wanted, it just would not trigger like the thingy at the end of the line! Pun intended. 😆

I was beaten to lanyard, I always loved the word, I hang my jump drives on them. What a lovely job on your new bag, the stitches are lovely, the nuns would be right proud 🙂

WWW, I knew the word, but it would not come to me. A lanyard is the fabric part and the trigger clip at the end opens or closes to add or remove the items in the photo above. I have one in another bag and it works so well I want to make some for my other bags.

Cathy, I am no academic, but quite an expert at plodding and playing, it keeps me out of mischief!

I thought it would be difficult to match the red, so went for a complete contrast.

As a Boy Scout one learns that the rope one’s whistle is on is called a lanyard. Maybe you weren’t a Boy Scout.
Males are seriously disadvantaged in not being able to carry such things as that bag creation without the risk of derision.

Brighid, it wasa case of ‘use it or lose it’ and since bright coloured handbags/purses are in vogue right now. I decided to play with it. It worked!

Gerlinde, there is no weight in the bag, only what ever I add to it. I do have a large bucket bag and everything lands in a jumble in the bottom. Maybe I should……!
