I’m back!

I have been absent for a week, but it was certainly no holiday. Thank you for your patience with this old patient!

For the first time in sixty eight years I was floored by a problem with the waterworks. My waterworks (UTI).

I was as limp as a wet lettuce, with no interest in blogging or reading anything. The words went in and got lost in the cotton wool of my brain. My energy levels went out the window and all I wanted to do was sleep.

Did I have a temperature? Yes but not in the way you would expect it was 33°C. 35°C would be normal for me, I am the original ice maiden. 37°C is the recognised normal body temperature. Not wanting to go down the antibiotics route, I decided to go for the old home remedies.

Cranberry juice and mammy’s barley water. I know that cranberry Juice is a No-No for anyone on Warfarin, thankfully that is not one of my meds, but I am on a blood thinning drug so still need to be careful.

A glass of cranberry juice was followed by another of boiled water.

I tried to distract myself with an unfinished knitting project. I had to rip out the same piece three times! 😡 Eventually I have finished it, so maybe I will post about it on Wednesday.  🙂

I noticed an improvement yesterday and today.

I WILL LIVE!

Maybe by mid week, I’ll be in form to venture out for a walk or a coffee.

I had some surprises in the past few days…

For the first time in thirty seven years of living in this house, I had not one, but two actual candidates for the Westminster Election on 7th May, ring my door bell and…….

Speak to me!

Padmini, coconuts appear in our neck of the woods at halloween then disappear like snow off the ditch, for another year!

I am going to visit the outside world today and when I return, hopefully, I’ll have a few moments to write a post on my knitting!

It’s hard to kill a bad thing, my friend. The barley water is doing the trick for me. Next time round I’ll flavour it with cranberry juice.

I’m so glad you are feeling better! Fighting a nasty UTI is hard work, so no wonder you were tired. My step-daughter has almost chronic UTIs and has been on antibiotics for entirely too long. The doctors haven’t been able to find anything that works well for her. Would you mind just telling me a little bit more about barley water? I’ve never heard of that as a potential remedy, although the cranberry juice is better known. I think at this point she would be willing to try anything! I’m sure you’re glad to have that episode behind you! It’s good to see you back.

Yes, Debra, it is good to feel much better, I was going to say ‘normal’ but the lads would ask if I was ever normal! 😆 I will be posting the recipe on the next Food Monday, but have sent a copy on to you for your step-daughter, I hope she finds it helpful.

I am so sorry you have had a UTI. I know from experience how painful and debilitating it can be. Barley water and cranberry juice usually help me too. I was interested to read in the comments above about coconut milk as another helpful remedy.
I am very glad that you are back and happy again to be well. 🙂

I am not out of the woods yet, I had to resort to medical help for the above and a problem with my eye. Slowly does it and I will get there. I am made of strong stuff!

I usually go for the antibiotics these days I have to say. Sorry there’s an eye problem too. It’s the Granny status that does it! I wish you a speedy recovery from one strong sister to another! 🙂

Unfortunately, all medications and I struggle to be compatable. I have been known as Grannymar since my mid twenties, but as yet I am not a granny.

I am actually still struggling, Dianne, so had to seek the assistance of antibiotics.

I got my first UTI at age 4 or 5 I think. They were a regular thing until I turned 40. That’s when I discovered parsley tea. Half fill a mug with fresh curly parsley (don’t bother chopping it up, it just makes it harder to drink). Add boiling water and let it steep for 5-10 minutes. I suppose you could remove the parsley before drinking, but I usually just sip it through the parsley leaves & stalks. The relief is almost instant. A couple of times a day wouldn’t hurt. If you have it close to bedtime, expect to need the toilet in the night. I grow my own parsley so that I never run out. Oh, and I also figured out that certain foods set me off. Now, I avoid oats, macadamias, kale and a few others. Hope this helps you!

Thank you LaLa. I never heard of parsley tea before. I must try it out of curiosity and add it to my arsenal of cures.
