25th Belfast Pride…

and I was there!

Thankfully the rain had the good manners to stay away and not turn us into drips.

This slideshow will give you a flavour of the nice side of Belfast. Happy people of all ages, colours, shapes and orientation proud to celebrate their being!

I even spied a few dogs sporting garlands or draped in rainbow colours.

It was a fabulous parade. Exotic and outlandish outfits, great music, rainbow flags galore, and lots of bystanders enjoying the spectacle. Sorry I missed you, Marie, but we’ll meet up again sooner or later!

And all so colourful, Nick. I saw one who had removed the high heels in Donegall Place and I asked how the feet were when we got back to Custom house Sq. That was a long walk in tights and no shoes!

David, as always on a Saturday afternoon there were a group of so called ‘Christian’ protesters staging a demonstration outside Belfast City Hall, this week it was against the march, but they were far outnumbered by supporters.

I was there in support of so many friends, both in the North & South of Ireland, who have ‘existed’ and not allowed to live according to their true selves.

Shackman, there was a real happy party atmosphere. At one stage there were a group of so called ‘Christians’ at the back of the crowd protesting with whiney bible quotations and dirgy hymns. They actually sounded pathetic & laughable doing nothing to help their cause.

There’s very little difference between Christian fundamentalism and Islamic extremism. Both use “religion” to deny basic human rights.

I love your pictures Marie. They really show the vibrancy and excitement of the day.
Toronto celebrated its 35th annual Pride parade this year with crowds estimated at 1.2 million. Brendan and I went a couple of years ago and had a blast. The costumes made us smile (or blush), participants with squirt guns got us wet and elderly couples walking proudly with their spouses and/or children made us cry.
There is enough sorrow and hate in this world. When any of us are fortunate enough to find love it should indeed be cause for celebration.
