In Never neglect a Fall, I wrote about my friend breaking the neck of her right femur on 20th January. Since she lives alone, I have been shopping, doing little tasks and spending time with her to break up the long days indoors.
It means my own routine has had to change about a little for the moment. I have been busy in the background.
I played with…
- Emulsion brushes and a roller.
- Washing wall tiles.
- Reinstated a piece of needle art.
- My sewing machine and some fabric.
- Began a project in crochet.
- Did some hand sewing repairs.
- Made some bows.
- Baked Guinness wheaten bread. Yummy.
- Guinness Pizza bases. Double Yummy.
- Made a batch of pancakes/crêpes for the freezer.
- Bought more paint.
- Bought more heat logs for my fire. The evenings still get cold and with the fire lighting, I am more inclined to sit and knit or crochet. I have a feeling in my gut that with Easter being early, it might be a cold one.
- Planned the menus for meals when Elly brings some of her friends to visit next month. It will mean, I can sit and talk to my visitors and not spend the time in the kitchen while they are here.
- Planned for future social events.
- Bought an evening dress.
- Sorted items to go to a charity shop.
- Cleared two cupboards
The list is more to prove to myself that I have actually been productive and that life is just not slipping by.
Now where do I start next?
chapeau. (i tip my hat) that is some list. you’re welcome at my home any time.
Lin, I didn’t realise I covered so much until I made the list. Some days felt like I got nothing done.
… and people think I’m busy! You won’t overdo it, will you?
There have been a few early nights…! Seriously though, spending time with my friend means a) I move out from my four walls and b) I rest while sitting chatting to her.
Too too much activity…especially the roller and paint bit. Slow down…and knit and crochet!!!! But you are a jolly good trouper….I must say!!! Bless you!
Padmini, it is five weeks since my friend had her fall. The item count is seventeen so that is an average of three a day. One job was over four days and all the baking was done in one, so it is not as bad as it looks. The roller is telescopic so it cuts out most of the climbing. With the daylight going by 6 p.m., I lit the fire, had dinner and sat for the evening with some crochet or hand sewing.
Grannymar, you are an inspiration. As always. Hugs from India
Hi Maria, it has been along time… Last I heard you were back in Dublin, I hope you enjoyed your visit, Are you still writing or blogging? Hope all is well.
Reading this list made me tired. Nap time.
Hope you enjoyed your nap, Al. Are you any good with a brush or roller?
I wouldn’t even care to make a list of anything – either To Do or Done… but in some ways I have made a fair amount of process at sifting/sorting.
Because I tire easily, I have a chronic health condition that reminds me…I am trying to do very small 30mins or less, and then change down [including liquid/summer heat here]…
Cathy, I would never survive your summer hear. My list was by way of explanation for my lack of posting. As I added the items, I surprised myself at all the things I managed to cover over the five weeks. I too have to pace myself The frosty mornings give me an excuse to work indoors until the days warm up.
Well done! Your friend must be so grateful she has you in her life.
She is. I live alone so know what it is like to be unwell and have nobody to help me. Elly comes for anything major, but she has a husband, a career and a life of her own to live and that is as it should be.
Yesterday, my friend insisted on making the coffee for the two of us. She made it and I did the carrying!
Yep – she is lucky to have a friend like you.
She is already planning our outings for when she is back on her feet with a ‘special lunch’ to start the ball rolling! She is doing well.
As long as you are doing what interests you and keeps you busy, keep starting new things as you go along. I wish that I could generate that kind of a list!
Ramana you have family and servants around you to do these tasks, I do not. They keep me busy and happen only when I feel like doing them. The light in our days has changed and the days are stretching… It all makes a difference?
Getting caught up with you and like you, I am sometimes shocked at what I accomplish when I write it all down as I honestly feel I’ve been idle and I rarely am and certainly can never remember a time when I was bored.
Goodonya with the insurance reduction, I must think of that at renewal time.

I was quite surprised when I finished the list, I should do it more often if only to check back and see when I did a particular item.
And I thought I was busy!!! 😀
I have rested plenty in the last few days and will begin again next week.
We all need friends like you! What is it they say? If you want something doing, ask a busy person. I think that’s right. 🙂
The busy phase came to an end and a longer spell of rest was needed that I expected. Getting back on track once again.
